The JGL Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), an independent body of domestic and international experts, met for the fifth time in Rijeka at its annual gathering, further shaping the scientific identity and strategic outlook of the projects of the largest Croatian-owned pharmaceutical company.
This year’s milestone meeting took place on 18 and 19 September 2025, bringing together leading scientists and experts from across medicine and pharmacy. The two-day programme combined updates on current projects, constructive discussions, and lectures which offered a glimpse into the future of JGL’s development.
The fifth SAB edition featured distinguished experts: Prof. Stipan Jonjić, PhD; Prof. Vladimir Trkulja, PhD; Assoc. Prof. Sonja Jandroković, PhD; Andreas Bilstein, PhD; Prof. Jasmina Lovrić, PhD; Ralf Sibbing, MPharm; and Prof. Sandra Peternel, PhD. The opening session included welcome addresses by CEO Mislav Vučić, Director of Research and Development and Acting Director of Scientific Operations Maša Safundžić Kučuk, and Head of Analytical Development and SAB Coordinator Leo Štefan.
Focus on projects and open questions
The first day was dedicated to exchanging views and reviewing the status of key projects within the dermatology, ophthalmology, and nasal sections. Around fifty colleagues from Scientific Operations participated in the discussions, which were lively and constructive, emphasising collaboration and innovative solutions.
Particular attention was drawn to the thorough preparation of all participants and their deep engagement with complex issues, which generated valuable new perspectives and ideas.
Scientific lectures and inspiration
On the second day, before some 70 participants from across the company, SAB members delivered engaging lectures in their respective fields of expertise, covering topics such as glaucoma and dry eye, biologics, preservative-free systems, as well as medical devices and regulations.
A particularly valuable aspect of this year’s SAB was the informal discussions during breaks, which allowed participants to exchange ideas and insights – often as inspiring as the formal sessions themselves. It is this openness and willingness to engage in dialogue that make SAB a unique space for scientific and professional collaboration.
Five years of synergy between science and practice
The milestone SAB meeting reaffirmed its important role as a place where science meets practice. In addition to presenting new perspectives and solutions, the meeting also raised many questions that will continue to be addressed and explored in the coming period, ensuring that SAB remains a source of guidance for both the current and future development of JGL.
