In June 2025, JGL employees took part in two major Northern Adriatic regattas – the Primorska Regatta and Fiumanka – aboard the sailing yacht Aqua Maris. They demonstrated that team dedication, coordination, and enthusiasm can make all the difference, even when sailing conditions are less than ideal.
Outstanding Result at the Primorska Regatta
The Primorska Regatta – one of the most renowned in the northern Adriatic – took place on 7 and 8 June 2025. JGL employees, Luka Baždarić, Mate Poropat, Mirjana Šušnjar, Zvane Poropat, Marin Mijolović, Ivona Zron, and Ivana Divković achieved an outstanding result at the regatta – seventh place overall out of 32 boats, and an impressive second place in their group.
Due to weather conditions, the official auxiliary start on the first day of the regatta was held near Porozina after 12:30 pm, ensuring optimal sailing conditions for all participants on the route to Cres. On the second day of the regatta, the fleet set off from Cres back to Rijeka, where the final finish line awaited. The crews sailed in conditions that shifted from a light maestral to challenging winds of up to 25 knots – a true test and valuable learning experience for our team. Despite this, mutual understanding, strong teamwork, and the guidance of more experienced crew members ensured a safe and successful journey.
Sailing Yacht Aqua Maris Crosses the Finish Line – Even Without Wind
Following their success in the Primorska Regatta, the Aqua Maris sailing yacht and its JGL employee crew took on another challenge by competing in the main race of Fiumanka 2025 – one of the most popular regattas in the region. The main regatta took place on 14 June 2025, with 153 yachts sailing in Rijeka’s waters. Due to a lack of wind, the regatta course was shortened to a loop from the buoy off Kostrena back to the Rijeka Port area.
Challenging conditions meant that only 53 yachts managed to finish within the set time limit. Among them was Aqua Maris, crewed on this occasion by JGL employees Laura Lazarević, Renata Miculinić, Katarina Butković, Laura Gubić, Marko Sinčić, Barbara Salopek, Vedrana Grbac, Mate Poropat and Zvane Poropat.
The JGL crew showed strong team spirit and resilience in the face of challenges, finishing 37th overall – a notable achievement given the three-hour lull and high temperatures. Despite the tough conditions, the atmosphere on board was fantastic, filled with laughter, support, and good spirits. That’s what makes Fiumanka so much more than a competition – it’s a signature Rijeka experience, a sense of togetherness, and a story retold for months after the boats return to port.
By taking part in events like this, JGL employees show that the company’s core values of responsibility, unity, and sustainability are embraced both in sport and in everyday work.
