For the past two weekends, the small ski resort of Platak was the place to be for all those looking to escape the heat, have fun in a positive atmosphere and participate in recreational sports. The seventh annual Sportsko lice Platka (Sports Face of Platak) event was held on Saturday, 19th August, bringing together around 300 sports enthusiasts and those who lead an active lifestyle. There were a total of 11 football teams, 12 volleyball and bocce teams, 17 basketball teams, and 22 disc golfers competing in the tournaments. Alongside local athletes, mainly from Rijeka and its surrounding areas, there were also teams from Slovenia and Austria. The wide range of other activities offered something for everyone.
The following Sunday, 27th August, saw the sixth annual Vertikalno lice Platka (Vertical Face of Platak), an event for mountain running and cycling enthusiasts. There were 250 participants – while runners enjoyed the varied terrain and beautiful landscapes during the triple trail race, cyclists competed on the renovated XCO trail.
These sports events are part of the Sva lica Platka (All Faces of Platak) programme, aimed at raising awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and promoting environmental protection and sustainable development, which JGL has supported since the programme was introduced.
