In early July Rijeka hosted the "Support Haircut Caravan", a charity event bringing together children suffering from malignant diseases and their parents, organized by the Brave Child Association and held all over Croatia. The laudable haircut initiative held at main town squares is intended to point out the problems of families with children stricken with malignant diseases, raise funds, but also show support for children who lose their hair during the treatment.
The Rijeka action, which featured some twenty hairdressers who gave haircuts to passers-by on Korzo and thus raised donations, was supported by JGL, which gave present to everyone who decided to go bald. One of the many citizens who volunteered to have their hair cut by expert hairdressers was the mayor of Rijeka, Mr Vojko Obersnel, who thus became the first Croatian mayor to get a haircut within this action.
- I have done a lot of things, but if someone had told me that I would get a haircut in the middle of Korzo, I would not have believed them. This is a very original idea that is truly for a good cause, said Obersnel while a hairdresser shortened his hair.
- A disease causes traumas and difficulties in the lives of children and their family, so the Association was founded to encourage the children and parents and provide financial aid. All our actions have one goal, and that is the recovery of our children. We established the association with the aim of raising public awareness and help understand the difficulties encountered by cancer-stricken children and their families, said Jasminka Žužić, president of the Association, and pointed out that parents expect the support of the government and employers. So far the action was held in Zagreb and Varaždin, and after Rijeka it will go to Pula, Zadar, Šibenik, Split, Dubrovnik, Karlovac, Osijek, Slavonski Brod, Županja and abroad.
