Pre-formula Specialist
About me…
I was born in Našice, but I have been living in Rijeka for seven years, where I completed Biotechnology in Medicine, a graduate study at the Department of Biotechnology. My thesis deals with synthesis in organic chemistry, while for my graduate thesis I decided to go for another field - molecular biology. At JGL I spent a year in the position of Pre-formula Specialist in the Research and Development department (where I also did an internship).
About my workday…
Every working day is different for me, which suits me perfectly. In the morning I usually go through my emails first and get to the most pressing things, and then I switch to things like: reviewing the research for a new product, organizing orders of raw materials and reference products on the market, developing methods in rheology and particle size, processing results, etc. There’s really a lot of work to be done, but that’s what it’s all about in the end.
About work challenges…
There are really all kinds of challenges. Sometimes it's when there's a device that doesn't work, so you try to figure out why, or you introduce a new device and you have to learn how to work with it first. Sometimes it’s patents that limit our ability to work on a new formulation, so we have to find a way to get around it. I need to keep in mind that the composition of the reference product may be hard to find on the market, which is mostly the case. However, I am surrounded by productive people so we find a solution to everything.
About the team environment…
My work environment in my team is great, all my expectations have been met. We solve problems together, but most of all we have understanding for each other. I think it is very important to have a positive environment at work and to go to work happy.
About motivation and interests…
It motivates me to learn new things and to perfect new skills. At JGL there is no lack of motivation in this aspect because we are constantly working on something new and trying to be better at what we already know.
About working at JGL …
Working at JGL is an adventure. Something new every day! But most of all I appreciate that we always strive for the best. I like the atmosphere and the stimulating surroundings the most. I think that what contributed to this the most was that as a young employee I have had the opportunity to present the projects we are working on. That motivates me to keep moving on.
About the desire for new knowledge…
I would like to one day pursue a PhD while working in industry. I like the interdisciplinary aspect of it all and applying the acquired knowledge in both areas.
About my hobbies…
Cooking and trying new dishes are a hobby that relaxes me, especially while hanging out with friends. A few years ago, I discovered hiking, and at least once a year I go to the mountains with my friends for a few days – which is something I would recommend to everyone!
About success and satisfaction…
I still have time for new achievements in life, but I am proud of my academic knowledge and what I have learned and achieved in the short year I’ve worked at JGL. I enjoy unfamiliar situations, most people run away from them, but once you realize that there's always a way - there is nothing you can’t do.
