Organised by the Croatian Medical Students’ International Committee (CroMSIC), the eighth Diving Medicine Summer School took place from 1 to 8 July 2025. This unique initiative, combining diving and healthcare, gathered students from France, Switzerland, Sweden, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Canada and Mexico, who explored the fields of underwater and hyperbaric medicine in Rijeka and on the islands of Krk and Cres – all under the expert guidance of Croatian physicians and diving instructors.
JGL has supported the Diving Medicine Summer School for years, recognising its value in fostering the development of the local and scientific community, encouraging innovative approaches to medicine, and promoting essential skills within the framework of social and environmental responsibility.
"At JGL, responsibility and sustainability are among the core values that guide us in everything we do. That’s why we are especially proud to have supported the Diving Medicine Summer School from its very beginning, for many years now. Through the education of future doctors and the development of underwater, hyperbaric and maritime medicine, this project underscores the importance of the sea in safeguarding health and contributes to building a healthier, safer and more resilient community.” said Alenka Jajac-Knez, JGL’s Director of Market Operations." The sea is an inseparable part of our company’s identity – best embodied by one of our most recognised brands, Aqua Maris. Being part of this initiative means investing in a sustainable future, where the sea is not only a resource but also a bridge between science and health, international cooperation and shared progress.”
The project was launched with an opening ceremony at Trsat Castle, attended by JGL’s global brand manager Maša Margan Vunić. "We are inspired to see this project grow and bring together passionate young minds from around the world. Our company also shares a deep and lasting connection with the sea. Aqua Maris, one of our flagship products, stands as a true testament to the sea’s healing power – which makes supporting a programme that advances knowledge in diving medicine a natural extension of who we are and what we believe in,” said Maša Margan Vunić, wishing the participants an inspiring, challenging and unforgettable experience at the Summer School.
As part of the programme, students attended lectures on the basics of diving and its related medical aspects. In addition, they developed core diving skills and took part in practical exercises in underwater rescue.
"In the eight years since the Diving Medicine Summer School was launched, we have reached a high level of quality and international recognition. Traditionally, the project attracts young students from around the world to Croatia to learn about underwater, hyperbaric, and submarine medicine, and this year is no exception. We strive to provide incoming students with high-quality education and to spark their interest in the fascinating world of diving and this unique branch of medicine," said Bruno August, Head of the Diving Medicine Summer School at CroMSIC.
